Highlanders, FC Platinum in epic battle as Dynamos face weakest opponent

By Auther Chimbgwa

An epic battle between football powerhouses Highlanders and FC Platinum is on this Sunday at Barbourfields stadium with Scottland and Simba Bhora squaring off in another mouth-watering clash at Rufaro stadium on the same day.

Highlanders, positioned fourth on the league table, have recorded four wins, five draws and one loss with 17 points to their name since the start of the current football campaign. The Bulawayo giants are certainly within hailing distance of early pacesetters MWOS, who have mustered a good 22 points from 10 games and remain unbeaten.

FC Platinum, who also remain unbeaten, have recorded two victories with the rest being draws.

The two giants therefore collide well aware that maximum points will place them in cruise control of their title aspirations.

Scottland FC, who are comfortably lying on the second position on the log standings, lock horns with Simba Bhora in another potentially gripping encounter at the ceremonial home of football.

The moneybags are second on the log standings by virtue of a superior goal difference over their rivals Simba Bhora, who also have 19 points.

Both teams know that any slip-ups could be potentially disruptive to their hopes of claiming the championship, although it may reasonably be too early to say so.

Simba Bhora plunge into the match to face former coach Tonderai Ndiraya and fierce goal scorer Walter Musona who were part of the triumphant squad that clinched the league title last year.

In another clash at Gibbo stadium, Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigowe can fancy his chances of collecting maximum points for the second time in 10 attempts so far when the troubled league giants take on basement side Triangle.

DeMbare, who have eight points out of a possible 30 – their worst start in seven years – sit number 14th on the log standings. They share the same number of points with neighbours Caps United and Yadah, but sit higher by virtue of a superior goal difference.

Match Day 11 fixtures kick off on Saturday with unbeaten log leaders MWOS hosting unpredictable TelOne at Ngoni stadium while Caps United host in-form Herentals College at Rufaro stadium.

Makepekepe, under a new coach, will be hoping for a change of fortunes after finding themselves languishing at the foot of the league table.

In other matches on the same day, financially troubled Kwekwe United host a youthful Chicken Inn at Bata stadium while Ngezi Platinum welcome ZPC Kariba at Baobab stadium.

Green Fuel entertain Manica Diamonds at the Green Fuel Arena while Bikita Minerals have a date with Yadah FC at Gibbo stadium to complete Saturday’s goal rush.
