MWOS reclaim top spot after draw with Manica Diamonds

By Auther Chimbgwa
MWOS returned to the summit of the log standings following a 1-1 draw with Manica Diamonds in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 9 clash played at Ngoni stadium, in Norton on Thursday.
Second half substitute Salif Cheya’s 83rd penalty kick cancelled out a 13th minute strike by Manica Diamonds’ Ask Rupende.
Moments later, Manica Diamonds appeared to have doubled the visitors’ lead in the 85th minute only for the effort to be ruled offside.
Then came the 83rd minute incident which saw a Manica Diamonds defender handling in the box with Cheya stepping up to net the resultant penalty with chilling precision.
In another mid-week fixture played between neighbours Scottland and Herentals at Rufaro stadium, Tymon Machope’s free header in the 56th minute was enough to seal a narrow victory for Scottland.
Following Match Day 9 of the league race, MWOS top the standings on 19 points.
Champions Simba Bhora are second on 18 while Scottland are third on 16.
Ngezi Platinum are fourth on 15.
