Rape exposed after landlord (48) buys pants for 13-year-old ‘lover’

A 48-year-old married man’s sexual relationship with his 13-year-old ‘girlfriend’ and tenant was exposed recently when the Harare resident was seen buying the minor some pants.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), both the offender and the girl’s family lived in the same house in Harare’s Glen Norah high density suburb.
A Harare magistrate heard recently that the man proposed love to the minor who accepted him.
“The first count involved the rape of the complainant between 2021 and July 2024,” NPAZ said.
“The court heard that the sexual activity began after the complainant and her brothers went to the offender’s house to watch television, at which point he proposed love to her and she agreed.
“The second count detailed incidents occurring between the second term of 2024 and January 2025, where the offender had extra-marital sexual intercourse with the same complainant. These incidents reportedly took place in the offender’s room when the girl went to watch television.”
The abuse was discovered when the minor’s mother noticed him parcelling out some cash to her and “buying her pants”.
The mother then took her daughter to the police, where she disclosed the abuse.
For his misdeeds, the offender was convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for two counts of rape on the minor.
