PSL summons Kwekwe United to hearing over abandoned fixture

Troubled premiership debutants Kwekwe United have been summoned to a disciplinary hearing by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the wake of the team’s failure to fulfil a league fixture against Herentals College at Bata Stadium on Monday.

The cash-strapped outfit has seen players engage in industrial action while demanding what they say are fair wages, better working conditions, and respect for contracts.

In a press release Thursday, PSL Communications and Media Liaison officer Kudzai Bare said the newcomers have been charged with breaching Order 31 of the PSL rules and regulations which state that it is an act of misconduct to fail to fulfil a fixture without reasonable cause.

“The club behaved in a manner which brings the league or any of its sponsors into disrepute or endangers the welfare of the league,” Bare said.

The PSL spokesperson added that the disciplinary hearing shall take place at the football administrator’s offices on Monday 5 May 2025 at 5.30pm.

The team is likely to be fined and Herentals College given the match on a 3-0 scoreline.

Kwekwe United also caused the near abandonment of their match against ZPC Kariba which was played at Nyamhunga stadium a couple of weeks ago as players refused to disembark from a team bus in protest over unpaid wages.

When players finally agreed to play, the team lost 5-0 to the opponents.

Club managers have admitted the Midlands team faces financial problems and has called on well-wishers to come forward with forms of assistance.
