3 miners dead after hoist plunges 45 metres down Mazowe mine shaft

Three people died at a Mazowe mine on Thursday when an electric hoist that was taking them to the surface plunged 45 metres into the mine shaft after a rope broke.

Police confirmed the Starlake Claim accident at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal mine incident which occurred at Starlake Claim, Jumbo Mine, Mazowe on 17 April in which three people were killed,” police said on their official X handle.

“The rope of an electric hoist broke while the victims were coming out of the mine shaft resulting in them falling into the shaft approximately 45 metres deep.”
