Man earns own jail term after performing community service for his brother

A 31-year-old man from Harare’s Dzivarasekwa suburb has earned his own prison sentence after he was found guilty of performing community service on behalf of his brother whom he impersonated.
According to prosecutors, Tinashe Kaseva showed up at Dzivarasekwa Police Station last month claiming to be his brother Wilbert Kaseva, who had been ordered by the court to do 210 hours of community service for a separate offence.
The cheeky Tinashe even used Wilbert’s ID to convince a police officer to let him perform his community service, according to the National Prosecuting Authority.
“The plan fell apart in April when police followed up on a fraud case involving Wilbert. When confronted, Tinashe confessed he was not Wilbert, but was doing the sentence as a favour to his brother,” NPA said.
