Fraud scandal: Former Highlanders CEO Brian Moyo granted bail

By Auther Chimbgwa

Former Highlanders Football Club Chief Executive Officer Brian Busani Moyo and Bulawayo Chiefs FC administrator Andrew Mandigora were both granted bail on Saturday following their arrest for allegedly defrauding their clubs of US$5,000 in a botched player transfer deal.

The football administrators appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Beverly Madzikatire facing the crime.

Moyo, who resigned last week following the fraud storm, is accused of conniving with Mandigora to inflate a player transfer fee from US$18,000 to US$23,000.

Moyo, according to prosecutors, submitted an invoice indicating US$23,000 to Highlanders.

Official records however reflected that Highlanders were charged US$23,000 when in fact, US$18,000 was actually paid to the club’s city neighbours.

It is further alleged that Moyo pocketed US$2,000 while Mandigora got US$3,000 from the fraudulent transaction.

After learning of this, Mandigora was immediately suspended from his duties by Bulawayo Chiefs while Moyo chose to resign.

On Saturday, the two appeared in court where they were each granted bail of US$200 coupled with reporting conditions.

Among their reporting conditions, the two were ordered to report once a week at their nearest police stations, not to interfere with witnesses, and to continue residing at their current addresses.

Th two were remanded to a later date for further court proceedings.
