By Sports Reporter

A football fan has been charged with assault after slapping Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish just after the English champions had played out a drab 0-0 draw with premiership rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

According to British media, 20-year-old Alfie Holt was arrested after he slapped the England international as he made his way back into the away dressing room.

The attack took place before the former Aston Villa star reached the tunnel.

Grealish is believed to have been beckoned over by a fan and was slapped in the face when he reached the fans at the bottom of the Stretford End.

Holt is set to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court facing assault.

Grealish has not had the best of seasons coming on in many games as a susbstutute.

His team Manchester City has also endured a big slump in form and is currently struggling to secure a top four finish.

At 52 points from 31 matches played, City are positioned sixth on the English premiership table and a distant 21 points from runaway leaders Liverpool who now stand to clinch the title if they win three more games and secure a draw on top.
