Housing and Social Amenities Minister Soda Zvemu says he is impressed by the progress made by property developer Ken Sharpe’s WestProp Holdings in turning The Hills Luxury Golf Estate in Harare into an upmarket residential and lifestyle facility.
In a recent tour of the place to assess progress by the minister, WestProp Holdings chief project officer Mandla Ndebele said the project which comprises of various sections will be complete by end of 2026.
“We are looking to complete the Golf Estate by end of 2026. There is a lot of work that is involved in creating the Golf Course, its pretty much hard, its not like building a house that you can quantify the number of bricks,” Ndebele said, adding that the company was working with the best golf course designer in the world to ensure optimum results.
“We are happy to have partnered with Peter Matkovich, he was recently awarded the best golf course designer in the world and to have him here last week to also bring this to fruition is actually a very big thing,” he said.
The project, which has various sections including the residential, golf and the commercial is going to be built in different phases beginning with the residential section.
Ndebele said the development of the property was starting with the residential part and the road infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Minister Zhemu commended the progress put down so far by WestProp.
“We were here in August last year, where his Excellency the President took his time to do ground-breaking for this project, which project we envisage to be making a very huge contribution towards the realisation of our vision of becoming an upper middle income society.
“Obviously, we would want to also see our people being properly housed and that is our mandate as a ministry, that of providing sustainable and modern housing.
“The impression of our visit is that we are actually happy with the progress that has been made here. You will recall that the project was going to be undertaken through this where it has been sectionalised, having a section for the golf course itself, a section for the commercial activities and also a section for housing.
“We have seen the first phase which is the housing aspect, we have seen the roads that have so far been constructed.
“We are impressed with the progress that has been achieved here. They also took us around to see what they are doing concurrently with the phase that is on the golf course and the dams for collecting the water that is raining and the explanation that we got is that is their ultimate plan even throughout the plan of the project that that will be collecting rain water and it won’t be wasted. They will be collecting it for purification and they will then use it within the project,” said Soda.
