In a shock case of triple murder, a 37-year-old Hurungwe man has been arrested facing his wife’s gruesome murder and those of two other victims and burying two of the bodies in a rubbish pit.
In a statement, police said they were investigating the crimes which were allegedly committed by Trymore Tore Mubairacheni Village under Chief Chundu in Hurungwe, Mashonaland West.
What started as an investigation into an attempted rape complaint filed against Tore by a woman later turned into a murder probe against him after the crime was discovered.
Police on February 17 visited the village on February 17 in pursuit of the rape complaint but later found themselves hands full with handling the murder of three people allegedly by the same suspect.
According to police, Tore, who had a history of abusing his wife Moline Chibayanzara, got into another quarrel with the 21-year-old on the evening of February 15.
Tore’s uncle, one Kuwesi Masau, aged 53, reportedly visited the couple on the following day and tried to counsel them.
Police said sometime on the same afternoon, Tore sent his 13-year-old cousin who is a neighbour to visit surrounding homesteads to borrow a shovel, but the boy came back empty handed.
When the boy returned, he found Tore filling up his rubbish pit with a hoe but never suspected anything untoward.
At around 5PM on February 16, another of Tore’s cousins and neighbour Anety Nabwalo, aged 17, went to the suspect’ home intending to watch some movies but was never seen again.
Police said villagers began searching for the missing three late that night into the morning of February 17.
A female villager reportedly confronted Tore accusing him of having knowledge over their disappearance.
Pleading his innocence, Tore asked the woman to accompany her to see a prophet and on their way, he allegedly attempted to rape her but she fled and later called the police.
A police statement said: “On the same day ZRP Chundu Base attended the scene and searches were conducted in the village.
“Nabwalo’s body was found covered with branches in a bush about 60 meters from her homestead and beside the body was a knife and a pair of black panties.”
The rubbish pit was dug up and the remains of Tore’s wife Chibayanzara and his uncle Masau were uncovered.
