Magistrate convicted for killing child in road accident

A magistrate has been convicted and fined for negligent driving which resulted in him striking and killing a school pupil with his car in November 2023.
Makunde Timeon Tavengwa, 46, was fined US$400 or five months in prison for culpable homicide following a fatal road accident.
According to prosecutors, on 22 November 2023, Tavengwa was driving a Nissan X-Trail along the Harare-Masvingo Road when he hit Misheck Makuvire, a school pupil who was crossing the road.
The child died on the spot from head injuries.
Investigations revealed the accident occurred in clear daylight on a wide tarred road.
The cortfond Tavengwa was negligent in that he failed to keep a proper lookout and that he was speeding.
