Gweru boyfriend found dead after teacher’s murder

By Staff Reporter

A 27-year-old man who is the suspect to last month’s killing of his girlfriend, who was a Gweru student teacher, has been found dead in what police say they are treating as suicide.

Valentine Tamuka Zireva, a student teacher at Hillside Teachers College, was being sought for the January 24 murder of Keener Tsanana, who was attached at Guinea Fowl High School.

However, the search for the murder suspect has resulted in the discovery of his own decomposed remains in a bushy area at Beacon Kop, Shurugwi, on February 3.

Midlands police spokesman Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said they were treating Zireva’s death as a suicide after he is believed to have hanged himself shortly after Tsanana’s murder.

Zireva was last seen on January 24, in the company of Tsanana at Guinea Fowl High School after visiting to spend the weekend with her.

Tsanana was found dead in a room at the school the following morning with injuries observed on her body, including a swollen forehead and multiple bruises.

Zireva was not seen thereafter, giving rise to suspicion he was behind his girlfriend’s murder.
