Harare mayor leads Commissioners to wrong home address

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume on Wednesday led commissioners to a wrong home in Greendale after he had earlier indicated he resided at the property while answering questions from the retired Justice Maphios Cheda led Commission of Inquiry into Harare City Council affairs.
The CCC top official and lawyer on Tuesday told Commissioners he was temporarily residing at 110 Coronation Road in Greendale after vacating his private home in Belvedere to pave way for renovations that would make the home suitable for student accommodation. He intends to turn his private property into a family business.
He told Commissioners he rented the Greendale property at a hefty US$2,000 per month.
When the Commission visited the Greendale property, Commissioners found a near derelict structure in the name of one Peter Pfukwa. The site is being used as a vehicle auction site.
“We have a bill from city council for house number 110 coronation. That resident is for Mr Peter Pfukwa, I have attached the bill,” said Tapiwa Godzi, one of the Commissioners leading the process.
Cheda also said, “This is an undeveloped stand. The only immovable structure which is embedded in the soil is an office structure. Certainly is not the residence.”
Mafume acknowledged his gaffe adding that he lives in another Greendale home instead.
“I did give the address as 110. It was my error. I stay in this same street on 102, I would want to invite the Commission to pass by my house,” he said.
