Family horror as woman stabs husband, children to death

Victims found with multiple stab wounds on their bodies

A 34-year-old Bulawayo woman brutally stabbed her husband and children to death after complaining that the family was living in poverty.

Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele narrated the sad incident.

Police is investigating a murder case which occurred in Cowdrypark Bulawayo on the 30th of January 2025 where Happiness Chimbangu, a female adult aged 34 of Cowdray Park stabbed her husband Edwin Chimbangu a male adult aged 35 and her two children Promise Chimbangu a boy aged 4 and Prudence Chimbangu, a female infant aged 7 months.

On the 29th of January, at around 0800 hours the accused person proceeded to her mother’s place of residence and she advised her that her husband was not providing enough and the family was in serious abject poverty.

On the same day and at around 1500 hours, the accused person returned to her mother’s place of residence again looking stressed and she advised her mother to take care of her children as she was going to kill herself.

At around 2200 hours the accused’s mother received a phone call from the accused person’s husband requesting her to come over to their place of residence as the accused person was talking about suicide.

The accused person’s mother teamed up with two adult family church mates and proceeded to the accused’s house where they conducted some counselling to the accused person after confessing to them that she wanted to kill herself. They then left for their respective homes at around 0001 hours on the 30th day of January 2025.

Two hours later at around 0200 hours, the accused person’s mother received a phone call from a church member who resides in the same neighbourhood, that her daughter has come to his place of residence informing him that she had killed her family.

A police report was then made. Upon arrival at the accused person’s house police found the now deceased Edwin Chimbangu lying on the bed and had deep cut injuries on the right ear, on the neck, right cheek and near right eye, Promise Chimbangu lying on top of a mattress and had a deep cut injury on the back shoulder and several cuts on the right side of the head and Prudence Chimbangu, lying on top of the bed on the left side of Edwin Chimbangu and she had deep cut injuries on the right side of the head and right cheek and all dead.

A metal digger which was used to commit the murder was recovered near the door with blood stains. The accused person blue dress had some had blood stains. The deceased bodies were conveyed to UBH for postmortem.

Members of the public are warned not to take Law into their own hands, it is disheartening that such a young family has been lost in such a way. We also urge the community to protect those close to people with suicidal tendencies so as to avoid such incidents.
