CCC politician Amos Chibaya granted bail
High Court judge ends 58-day jail nightmare for former MP

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) politician Amos Chibaya, accused of violence incitement, has finally been granted bail coupled with some reporting conditions after spending 58 years under pre-trial detention.
In granting him his freedom, High Court judge Gibson Mandaza ordered the former Mkoba MP to deposit US$500 with the Clerk of Court at the Harare Magistrates’ Court and to report once every fortnight at CID law and order division in Harare.
Chibaya was also ordered to continue residing at his usual residential address and not to interfere with witnesses.
Speaking to journalists outside the court building, lawyer Chris Mhike said his client had been jailed for 58 days.
He added that Chibaya will be going back to the Harare Magistrates’ Court on 28 November for routine remand.
According to the state, Chibaya was among a group of CCC activists who staged demonstrations at the court building in June this year demanding the release of party faction leader Jameson Timba and 77 party activists who had been denied bail.
It is further alleged Chibaya then convened a meeting at the entrance of the court building where party politicians Agency Gumbo and Ostallos Gift Siziba were among the speakers.
On that occasion, prosecutors allege, Chibaya incited fellow opposition activists to commit violence.
