Man kills 94-year-old grandma for being a ‘witch’

A 27-year-old man mercilessly struck his 94-year-old grandmother several times with a log leading to her death while accusing her of bewitching him.

For the crime, Takudzwa Mugariri was arraigned before the High Court sitting at Gweru on murder charges.

He was later convicted and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

Mugariri committed the crime on 3 February 2024, court heard.

“He accused her of bewitching him,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe in a statement.

Murders among parties accusing each other of practising witchcraft are common in Zimbabwe.
