Boy dupes students of US$2 600 in fake junior parliament programme
Dragged to court charged with fraud

A 17-year-old boy Harare boy duped some high school students of a total US$2 600 on false promises of facilitating a junior parliament programme.
Prosecutors told a Harare magistrate the cheeky teen from Harare’s Zimre Park suburb collected the cash in amounts of US$62 fake registration fees and US$50 each as payment towards camping at a Domboshava resort.
Said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in a statement, “Sometime in July 2024, the accused person posed as a member of the Junior Parliament, promising students a chance to join the Junior Motivators SADC Parliament programme.
“He charged them US$62 for registration and uniforms and US$50 for a camping trip to Domboshava Resort.
“After receiving payments, he disappeared. The total amount involved was $2 640. Nothing was recovered.”
The teen was released into the custody of his guardian.
He will rerun to court on 5 September 2024.
