The long-awaited trial of Peter Dube finally starts next month, more than two years after the Gweru businessman gunned down his second wife’s suspected lover and his girlfriend and also turned the weapon on his second wife and her sister leaving them for dead.

Dube has been indicted for trial at the Gweru High Court.

“The trial will begin on the 9th of September 2024,” said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in a Friday statement.

The 40-year-old faces two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The incident took place 22 April 2022 at Bensam Flats along Main Street in Gweru.

Dube is accused of shooting and killing Shelton Chiduku with a Zastara pistol on the left shoulder accusing him of being in a love relationship with his second wife Nyasha Nharingo.

He turned the lethal weapon on Gamuchirai Mudungwe whom he shot once on the left cheek resulting in her instant death.

He then went upstairs to 11 Bensam Flats where he also shot Nyasha Nharingo once on the right cheek.

The bullet protruded to the left side of the neck, removed the right molar tooth and landed on the upper side of her shoulder.

He also shot his sister-in-law, Nyaradzo Nharingo once above the left ear with the bullet protruding through and rapturing her left eye.

Both were later treated for the injuries at Gweru Provincial hospital.

After the murders, Dube fled to Ireland where he claimed asylum after changing his name to hide his identity.

He was later arrested in Mozambique where he got deported before being handed to Zimbabwean authorities to face his crimes.
