Malema says Chiwenga is ‘done’, now weakened by Mnangagwa

Tough speaking South African opposition leader says Zimbabwe youths should ‘rise’ against Mnangagwa ‘tyranny’

By Staff Reporter

Outspoken South African opposition leader Julius Malema has urged Zimbabwean youths to rise against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s oppressive rule, adding that former military commander Constantino Chiwenga who freed the country from late former dictator Robert Mugabe has been weakened.

Speaking at a public lecture at Rhodes University, the EFF leader equalled Mnangagwa’s rule to tyranny.

“The Zimbabwean youth must rise because that nonsense will never come to an end for as long as there in no unity of purpose against the tyranny, against the suppression of political wishes of Zimbabweans,” he said.

“So, ourselves at Pan African Parliament, at the AU, at SADC, we have to have the political will to speak for the people of Zimbabwe.

“When it comes from us, it will have more weight than when it comes from Europe. Why; because we are brothers and sisters. They will know its friendly fire.”

Malema said SADC, AU and South Africa were failing Zimbabweans because “it is friendship”.

He said SADC leaders refer to each other as “brother” and cannot look themselves in the eye and admonish each other for any wrongdoing.

Malema said SADC summits have turned useless as leaders do not come out with firm resolutions against a member country’s misdeeds.

He said it was time SADC came up with clear resolutions which have timelines to be followed.

“They do not take resolutions at SADC and there should be a clear resolution from SADC and timelines put,” he said.

“Otherwise Mnangagwa is going to come back and he has got nothing to offer at all.

“So, Chiwenga is done. He will not be anything, they used him. Chiwenga is nolonger the most powerful military man in Zimbabwe now.

“They have weakened him. So, only the power of the youth of Zimbabwe can change the political status quo and Zimbabweans need to know that we are with them.”

Zimbabwean authorities have vowed to quash any protests against the government.
