Highlanders Football Club have taken a fan to court for dropping and damaging a clubhouse television the club has valued at US$1 040.
The overzealous fan has been identified at Bhebhe.
He was reportedly dancing when he damaged the TV.
Before the incident, witnesses say, Bhebhe was asked to move away from the television but ignored.
Security indicated in its report that Bhebhe attempted to run away through the gate leading to a nearby supermarket but was apprehended and handed to the police.
The damaged television is however not the only one at the clubhouse which is located on the fringes of the Bulawayo City Centre. The facility, a pride of the Zimbabwe giants in a country where most football clubs do not own clubhouses, is accessible to fans who often indulge in booze and braai during and outside match days.
Bhebhe appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate on Friday and was handed three months imprisonment, wholly suspended on condition he pays US$100 fine or ZiG equivalent and restitutes the complainant in the sum of US$1 040 by 30 August 2024.
Fans mobilising donations through different chapters to raise money to bail him out.
Bhebhe is regarded as too poor to afford paying both the fine and compensation.
