The sad incident happened on 1 March 2024.

For the act, Prince Ndakaambana, aged 31, was arraigned before a Mutare magistrate facing culpable homicide.

According to prosecutors, on the fateful day and at around 10am, Ndakaambana and the now deceased Tinashe Makurumidze and two others went to Chimwanda River to fish using a mosquito net.

While at the river, said the National Prosecuting Authority in a statement, “the accused person goaded the now deceased to wade into the deep”.

“When the now deceased told him that he could not swim and preferred to stay in the shallow waters, the accused person pushed him into the deeper waters of the river,” NPA said.

“As a result of the accused person’s actions, the now deceased drowned. The accused person and the other two tried to save him and failed.

“A local villager later recovered the deceased’s body, which was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.”
