Police throw decoy in renewed probe on Mnangagwa bomb attack
As insecure Zimbabwe leader turns up heat of security commanders amid threat on his life

Police on Tuesday cheekily published an image of a man linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s assassination bid at White City Stadium in 2018 but lied that he was a wanted suspect for fraud involving US$300 000.
This comes as pressure is mounting on Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga and other security organs to come to the bottom of continued security breaches on the president and some of his close family members recently.

In a statement on Tuesday, police dangled a US$10 000 reward for anyone who will supply information that would lead to the arrest of the unnamed suspect.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The suspect is being sought in connection with a fraud case of US$300 000 which occurred in Bulawayo. The suspect defrauded a local firm and disappeared.”
However, reports say the alleged fraudster is actually the target of renewed investigations into Mnangagwa’s near death incident soon after his star rally address in Bulawayo 2018.
The grenade killed two Central Intelligence Organisation agents and wounded 47 others, including vice president Kembo Mohadi and defence minister Oppah Muchinguri.
The deceptiveness nature of the police statement was displayed by the rare embedding of the suspect’s face and the accompanying US$10 000 reward for his “positive identification”.
Mnangagwa has seen puzzling security breaches around his private property in Harare and break-ins at the home of his son Kudakwashe Mnangagwa, who is finance deputy minister as well as tourism deputy minister Tongai Mnangagwa’s offices in the Harare city centre.

Police have failed to make any arrests following the incidents.
Security sources say Mnangagwa, “wants answers from the security arms of the state, starting with unravelling what happened at White City.”
Mnangagwa displayed fears for his life on Tuesday when two security aides flanked him during the burial of retired Brigadier-General Michael Chaminuka at the National Heroes Acre.
