A Madlambuzi man in Matabeleland South struck his wife on the head with a pick and a hammer, killing her instantly, after reportedly catching her sprinkling some muti into his porridge.
A statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) named the killer husband as 34-year-old Honest Nkomo.
Nkomo recently appeared before a Plumtree magistrate facing murder.
Prosecutors allege the heinous crime was committed 17 July this year.
“Allegations are that a misunderstanding ensued between the accused and his wife, on the 17th of July 2024 at Ntambama Village under Chief Masendu in Madlambuzi area, when the accused person found his wife sprinkling something he suspected was a charm into his porridge,” NPA said.
“When she refused to explain herself, he ordered her to eat the porridge.
“She refused to eat the porridge and the misunderstanding escalated into violence.
“During the scuffle, the now deceased fell and the accused person struck her with a pick on the head before striking her again on the head with a hammer.
“The now-deceased died instantly with the hammer stuck on her head.
“The accused person later removed the hammer from the deceased’s head and placed it on the ground.”
Nkomo was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on 1 August 2024.
