3 police officers take shifts to rape bathing teenager

Three police officers took turns on different days to rape an 18-year-old woman, twice when she was bathing and once after threatening her with a knife, a Beitbridge court has been told.

The unnamed police officers all reside at Chitulipasi Post Camp Quarters, Beitbridge.

According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the alleged rape incident happened between 5 and 13 June this year.

The complainant had reportedly visited her sister at Chitulipasi Post Camp Quarters.

“On the 5th of June 2024 the first accused person allegedly raped the complainant as she was bathing,” NPA said.

“He allegedly grabbed her from behind and put his hand over her mouth before committing the offence.

“The second accused person allegedly raped the complainant on the 8th of June 2024 as she was also bathing.

“He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and forcibly pushed her to the ground before committing the offence.”

NPA said the teenager’s third experience happened on 13 June at around 2pm when the third police officer approached her while she was alone at home washing some plates.

“The third accused person allegedly closed the door and threatened the complainant with a kitchen knife before raping her.

“The matter came to light when the complainant returned to Bulawayo where she confided in her mother of the offences.”

The three were all arrested and taken to court where they were remanded in custody pending return to court on 23 July 2024.
