29 pupils injured in Mutare bus collision with train

‘Bus driver was putting on earphones when the accident occurred’

Twenty-nine pupils were injured Wednesday morning when a Versatille Academy school bus in which they were travelling was involved in an accident with a train at a rail level crossing in Mutare.

Police confirmed the incident.

“The ZRP confirms a road traffic accident which occurred at a level railway crossing along Durban Road, Willowton, Mutare on 3 July 2024 at around 0730 hours in which a  goods train hit a Versatille School bus with learners on board.

“As a result, 29 learners were injured and were referred to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for treatment.

“The bus driver was allegedly putting on earphones when the accident occurred,” police said.
