Scotch cart overtaking row ends in stab nightmare for Beitbridge man

A 28-year-old Beitbridge man has been jailed for attempted murder during an overtaking quarrel with another man who was driving his own scotch cart.

He was named as Mpho Moyo (28) of Masera village in Beitbridge.

The incident happened 2 June 2024 at around 3AM.

A Beitbridge magistrate heard that Moyo and Surprise Mlilo (20), the complainant, were both travelling in the same direction using their carts.

“The complainant asked the accused person to make way so that he could overtake him,” said the national Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is a statement.

“This did not go down well with the accused person who stopped his scotch cart in the middle of the road and confronted the complainant.

“The confrontation escalated into a physical assault where in the accused person stabbed the complainant once on the head, once on the right hand and twice on the left hand.”

The matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.

For the crime, Moyo was sentenced to 5 years in jail.
