Mazowe school teacher, biker killed in police vehicle accident

A Mazowe school teacher was struck and killed by a police truck in Concession on Saturday night in a tragic road traffic accident that also claimed the life of a motor cyclist.
The teacher was identified as Jeoffrey Sabau who worked at Amandas Primary School in Mazowe.
Witnesses said the accident was a result of an overtaking error by the police driver.

The incident happened along a blind rise near Concession police camp in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central.
Sabau reportedly died from the accident injuries while admitted at Concession Hospital.
School headmaster Thorpe Nyamukuvheni confirmed the incident.
“It’s a sad development that happened last night but as of now, details are sketchy and I can only refer you to the police for further details,” Nyamukuvheni said.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe could not give details saying he was attending a funeral while national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
A witness to the accident said the police driver first struck a motorbike before his vehicle hit the teacher.
“The police truck, a Toyota Revo (Mazowe) was overtaking on a blind rise near the Concession police camp.
“The man who was hit was taken to the Concession Hospital by a lorry of well-wishers and died upon arrival at the hospital.
“He was a music teacher at Amandas primary school in Concession.
“The police driver was reckless,” he said.
