Man steals cash from 82-year-old grandma, a sangoma

Undeterred by his 82-year-old grandmother’s age or profession, a 29-year-old Beitbridge man went ahead and stole ZAR70 000 and US$600 from the octogenarian.
For his misdeeds, Douglas Rosewelll Ncube was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment by a Beitbridge magistrate who found him guilty of committing theft, according to a Thursday statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Said NPA, “Sometime between the 21st and 28th of April 2024, the accused person stole some cash amounting to ZAR70 000 and US$600 from his 82-year-old grandmother who is a traditional healer.

“The matter was reported to the police and investigations led to the arrest of the accused person.

“He was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended.
“A further 8 months was suspended on condition that the accused person pays restitution. He will serve 8 months effectively.”
