Cash snatched from school while parents paid fees

At least US$1 481 was seized from Warren Park primary by six robbers as parents queued to pay fees for their children when schools opened for the second term on Tuesday.

Police confirmed the incident and further warned school authorities to beef up their security during the time parents are paying fees.

“The ZRP urges school authorities to increase security and be alert as parents pay school fees. Where possible, parents are encouraged to deposit their fees through financial institutions to curb armed robbery cases,” police said Tuesday.

“Meanwhile, Police is investigating a case of robbery which occurred at Warren Park Primary School this morning when six armed suspects raided the school as parents were paying their school fees. The suspects went away with US$1 481.00 cash. Investigations are in progress.”

Robbery cases targeting schools are now common in Zimbabwe.

In March this year, a caretaker at Glen View number 9 primary school in Harare died after he was attacked by three robbers who raided the school looking for cash after they got wind the learning institution was keeping a large amount of money it intended to use to purchase a car for the head.
