A police detective stationed at CID Mwenezi is being accused of stabbing and killing his colleague with an okapi knife when the now deceased had tried to restrain him from feuding with fellow patrons at a Karoi night club.
For his alleged misdeeds, Farai Simudzai (42) appeared before a Karoi magistrate facing murder.
The deceased police officer was named as Priviledge Hove.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Simudzirai was drinking beer with one Mirirai Chiweza on 21 April 2024 in a Karoi Night Club where Hove was also drinking.
A quarrel arose between the accused Simudzai and other patrons.
In a bid to calm him down and restrain him from further quarrelling with fellow patrons, Chiweza took Simudzai out of the club.
While outside, said NPA, the accused person started attacking Chiweza and the now deceased.
“Hove attempted to stop him. He allegedly drew an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Hove once in the stomach before vanishing into the darkness.
“Hove died upon admission at Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare,” NPA said.
Simudzai was remanded in custody to 8 May this year.
He was advised to apply for bail through the High Court.
