In a shock incident, a Domboshava man, named Ashely Kabaya, soaked his wife with cobra venom and paraffin before setting her on fire, leading to her death.

But the now deceased Spiwe Jenyure could not allow Kabaya to escape with his cruelty as she grabbed her husband while flames devoured her body, leading to him also sustaining severe burns.

Kabaya, who faces murder, is now hospitalised for burns.

Reports say the shock incident was triggered by a dispute over sharing of the couple’s matrimonial property.

A court heard that the incident took place on April 15 when the couple decided to share their property as they finalised their divorce.

It is alleged that Kabaya locked the door from the inside the couple’s home and proceeded to attack Jenyure with a golf stick.

The court further heard that Kabaya went on to soak his wife with a mixture of cobra venom and paraffin before setting her on fire.

Jenyure fought back, grabbing Kabaya in the process and leading to him also suffering severe injuries.

He is currently in hospital.

The wife cried for help and a passerby heard the noise, smashed the door open and tried to extinguish the fire with assistance from other community members, who had gathered at the scene.

The couple was immediately rushed to Makumbe Hospital in Domboshava but due to the severity of their burns, they were both transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare for specialised care.

Jenyure died last Wednesday at Parirenyatwa.
