98 dead as ferry capsizes off Mozambican coast

At least 98 people were killed after a makeshift ferry which was overcrowded with residents capsized off Mozambique’s northern coast, according to local media on Monday.

Victims of the accident, who include women and children, were reportedly fleeing a feared cholera outbreak.

The doomed ferry which was carrying an estimated 130 people, capsized Sunday.

It reportedly departed the Mozambican coast for the nearby Island.

Reports said at least 11 people were hospitalized.

Most of the dead were recovered Sunday, but an additional seven bodies were found Monday, bringing the death toll from 91 to 98.
