Mom burns girl (4)’s privates after ‘sex’ with boy (7)

A 27-year-old Chipinge woman burnt her 4-year-old daughter’s privates while accusing the infant of having sex with a 7-year-old boy.
For the crime, the woman from Kopera village in Chipinge was arraigned before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court facing the charge of ill-treating a child.
On the 6 March 2024 at around 7PM, the woman called the infant and accused her of having sexual relations with a 7-year-old boy, according to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“The accused person became furious and burnt her 4-year-old daughter on the genital area with a burning piece of firewood that she pulled out from the fire.
“The complainant sustained some burns on her genital area. The complainant’s father reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.”
The woman was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment with 12 months suspended for 5 years.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on the condition that she performs 480 hours of community service at a public institution.
In an almost related incident, a Chegutu couple has been dragged to court accused of ill-treating a 5-year-old relative.
According to NPA, the 22-year-old woman and her 37-year-old husband were taken to the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court for ill-treating a child in their care.
It is alleged that sometime during the year 2022, the pair ill-treated and neglected the minor, who is a niece to them.
“They assaulted her with a sjambok, poured hot porridge on her and locked her up in solitary confinement. The complainant sustained burns on the body,” NPA said.
They were remanded to 19 March 2024 for bail ruling.
