Sakhile Tanyanyiwa nee Tshuma (34), wife to former police Commissioner Mekia Tanyanyiwa (59), was on Tuesday jailed an effective 12 months after she was convicted of snatching a two-month-old infant from her mother in Gweru last week.

She faced kidnapping charges.

A Gweru Magistrate slapped the Sakhile with 18 months imprisonment of which six months was suspended for five years.

She will serve an effective 12 months jail.

Sakhile was accused of kidnapping the baby that she later took home and misrepresented to her husband she had given birth to the infant.

He did not believe that the child was newly born and doubted her story all the more when he heard that a baby had been snatched in Gweru.

He then took his young wife and the baby to CID Gweru.

She was positively identified by the mother at a formal identification parade.
