United Kingdom based Zimbabwean man stabbed to death

Lazarus Makono succumbed to his demise following the incident in Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Lazarus Makono, a 26-year-old Zimbabwean based in the United Kingdom, was stabbed to death in Barnsley, South Yorkshire with three men now held as suspects in the crime.

Makono’s stabbing was committed at a property on Cooperative Street around 01:20 GMT on Wednesday.

Efforts to save his life were in vain amid reports Makono succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Two suspects, aged 27 and 28, have since been arrested in connection with the crime.

Two women aged 20 and 25, and another man aged 32, have also been arrested in connection with assisting an offender.

They were later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Senior Investigating Officer Ben Wood conveyed the police force’s dedication to unraveling the circumstances surrounding Makono’s untimely demise.

“Lazarus’ family are heartbroken and grieving during this very difficult time, and my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones,” he was quoted as saying.

Efforts are being made to seek funding for repatriation of Makono’s remains to Zimbabwe with a GoFundMe campaign activated by a Sharron Muzunze.

Close associates say Makono was a vibrant individual cherished for his laughter and kindness.
