His luck runs out after the crime is anonymously reported to police

A 75-year-old man was fined a heifer by close family members for raping his 14-year-old granddaughter during a secret internal settlement of the serious crime.
He was however unlucky to find himself in the hands of the police who got wind of the crime through an anonymous source.
For his misdeeds, the man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, recently appeared before a Lupane magistrate facing rape.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Hwange Regional Magistrates’ Court on 22 February 2024.
Prosecutors told court that sometime in January 2024, the septuagenarian summoned the minor to his bedroom during a time his wife and grandmother to the minor had been away.
When she got to the bedroom, read a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), he assaulted the girl with a switch before ordering her to undress and lie on the bed after which he allegedly raped her.
“He also threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone,” NPA said.
“The matter came to light when the complainant fled from the accused person’s residence to her maternal grandfather’s residence where she revealed the matter to one of her aunts.
“The matter was settled at family level and the accused person paid one heifer.
“An anonymous report was then made to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.”
