Bizarre virginity test on minor earns father 20 years imprisonment

A Muzarabani man has been jailed 20 years for inserting his finger into his 13-year-old daughter’s privates in a bizarre virginity test triggered by his suspicion the minor had had sex.

During trial, a Bindura magistrate heard that the 36-year-old man from Makoni village in Muzarabani, performed the abuse after his minor daughter had failed to return home on time.

Prosecutors told the court that on November 8 last year, the girl took shelter at her aunt’s home together with her grandmother after it had started raining.

The father followed them to the aunt’s place where he later took the girl home while assaulting her on the way.

When they got home, the father took the girl into the house, locked himself with her inside and started questioning his daughter on whether she had had sex with one Simba to which she denied.

To compound the minor’s troubles, the father took a condom and wore it in his hand and ordered his daughter to lie on the bed.

He then inserted his “pointing finger” into the girl’s privates and started assaulting her with a mop several times during the night.

The girl later narrated her ordeal to her grandmother resulting in a police report being filed.

In passing sentence, regional magistrate Amos Mbobo noted that “the accused used severe force and physically assaulted his daughter before inserting his finger into her private”.

“The court took into account the extent of physical and psychological trauma inflicted on the complainant.

“The court must ensure that stiff penalties are imposed,” Mbobo said in his ruling.
