A 12-year-old Chitungwiza girl is five months pregnant from a September rape ordeal she suffered in the hands of a 27-year-old suspect who is employed as a butcher.
The suspect has been identified by police as Farai Chezhira who is employed at Big-H butchery.
It is alleged sometime in September last year, the Grade 6 victim was sent by her grandmother to buy some eggs.
Along the way, she met Chezhira who allegedly lured her to the back office of the butchery where the abuse took place.
The abuse came to light on February 6 when her grandmother noticed she was pregnant.
Narrating the incident, Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chikanza said Chezhira threatened to kill the girl if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
“The accused person then lured the complainant into a room behind the butchery where he raped her once without protection,” Chikanza said.
“The accused then threatened to kill the complainant if she disclosed the sexual abuse to anyone. The matter came to light when the complainant’s grandmother noticed that she was pregnant.
“The child was escorted to Edith Opperman Maternity Hospital, Mbare where it was confirmed that she was pregnant, leading to the arrest of the suspect.”
