A 23-year-old man allegedly broke into a house in Harare, took a 13-year-old girl to a secluded place outside her home where he raped her once without protection while her family members slept, unaware of the abuse.
Unsatisfied with his misdeeds, Freddie Kachirundu returned to the same house moments later to steal a laptop and gas stove.
Kachirundu was apprehended two weeks later while running after another minor girl from the area who had resisted her rape attempts.
Both incidents, according to court papers, happened in Harare’s Glen View high density suburb.
Kachirundu appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with rape.
He was not asked to plead and will return to court on February 15 for trial.
He was also charged with unlawful entry.
“On January 14, 2024, the complainant was sleeping in the dining room when she was awakened by the accused who pointed a knife at her,” court papers read in part.
It is further alleged he held the minor captive, taking her to a secluded place some 200 mitres from her home to commit the offence.
He then took her back to her home after the abuse before rewarding his misdeeds with some household items.
“After returning to the house, Kachirundu stole a laptop and a gas stove before making his exit,” further reads court papers.
A few weeks later, Kachirundu allegedly tried to rape another girl whom he had lured into a maize field in the area.
The minor reportedly managed to escape after he had told her point blank he had intentions of raping her.
The girl fled into a residential area with Kachirundu in pursuit.
His luck ran out when he got spotted by his first victim who was assisted by the public to apprehend him.
