Mental patient kills cousin (4) using axe, knife

A suspected mental patient in Nyanyadzi, Manicaland has confessed to killing his 4-year-old cousin using an axe and a knife.

Police said on X Wednesday that they have arrested the suspect.

“Police in Nyanyadzi have arrested a suspected mental patient, Patrick Dzavamwe (29) for callous killing of his cousin (4) with an axe and knife on 16/01/24 at about 0100 hours at Zvavamwe homestead, Svongwa Village, Buhera.

“The suspect allegedly confessed that he committed the offence after waking up from a nightmare,” police said.

The shock incident follows an almost similar one in which a 28-year-old Chipinge man gruesomely struck and killed a 3-year-old baby with a hoe after the child’s mother had refused to give him some vegetables which he had demanded.

The suspect was identified as Benjamin Sithole while the victim was named as Agnes Sigauke.
