Cop crushed to death at accident scene by speeding truck
Witnesses narrated struggle to pull Constable Adam Mugwazo’s body from wreaked police car

A police constable was crushed to death in Dete Tuesday when a speeding haulage truck rammed onto a stationary truck and a police vehicle in which he was recording a statement following an earlier road traffic accident scene that had occurred at the spot.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the unfortunate incident involving Constable Adam Mugwazo.
“There was an accident involving a truck and police vehicle,” Nyathi said.
“A police officer was attending the accident scene when another truck came and hit the trailer and a police vehicle and a police officer who was taking a statement was trapped.
“It’s a sad happening and we are conducting investigations.”
Mugwazo, who was stationed at Hwange police traffic department, had been recording a statement while sitting in the police Mahindra truck under rainy conditions.
The haulage truck reportedly rammed onto the trailer of the truck that had been involved in the accident and in the process hit the police vehicle which got trapped between the two trucks killing Mugwazo on the spot.
Witnesses narrated how attempts to pull his body out of wreaked car was a struggle.
Numerous fatal accidents have been reported along the sharp curves around Dete stretching from Cross Mabale to Dinde near the Hwange toll gate.
Besides the sharp curves, the road is very narrow making driving a nightmare.
At Cross Dete, a number of people have been killed including pedestrians and hawkers after being hit by speeding vehicles.
