Shown the door ... Harare mayor Jacob Mafume fired just weeks after surprise return as mayor

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has fired Jacob Mafume from his job as Harare for allegedly siding with self-styled interim party secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.

Mafume, who bounced back recently as mayor, was sacked together with six others.

Mutare mayor Gwasira is reportedly also among those fired.

The city fathers are the first politicians to be sacked directly by Chamisa since the August 2023 elections.

It remains to be seen if the Zanu PF led central government will allow Mafume to be ousted as head of the country’s biggest local authority since the ruling party is viewed as having a vested interest in CCC affairs.
