Jacob Mafume bounces back as Harare mayor

By Staff Reporter

Jacob Mafume has bounced back as Harare mayor in yet another farcical twist to the capital city’s mayoral saga.

He was Thursday re-elected mayor after defeating Elvis Ruzani by a vote of 22 to 15.

The position became vacant when Lovejoy Chitengu, who had replaced Ian Makone, was recalled by self-styled CCC interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.

The CCC councillor was mayor between 2020 and the August 23 harmonised elections.
