By Staff Reporter

An armed robber shot and killed a 42-year-old Zvishavane shop owner after forcing the victim’s employee to lead him to her house where he committed the heinous crime.

According to a statement by police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Mercy Hwahwa was at her home in Maglas when she fell victim to the attack.

Said the police spokesperson, “An unknown suspect who was armed with an unspecified pistol and wearing a facemask intercepted Mercy Hwahwa’s employee who was coming from the shop to Mercy Hwahwa’s residence to hand over cash realised from daily sales.

“The suspect forced the employee to show him Mercy Hwahwa’s residence saying he had inside information that Mercy Hwahwa had cash received from a savings club (mukando).

“When the suspect arrived at the house, he demanded cash from Mercy Hwahwa, who denied having any, and then shot her on the head with a pistol. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash, two cell phones and US$100 000 realised from daily sales at the shop.”

Hwahwa was taken to Zvishavane hospital where she died upon admission.

Police have appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
