Thieves break into Man City star Kevin De Bruyne’s home, snatch several items

Thieves broke into Manchester City star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne’s Belgian mansion on Saturday, making off with several items.

The premiership star got to know of the burglary when he arrived in Saudi Arabia alongside his teammates Sunday to prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup.

City take on the Asia Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds in a semi-final clash Tuesday.

De Bruyne’s wife, Michele Lacroix, discovered the break-in when she returned to the family’s 70-acre property at the weekend. No-one was in the house when it was ransacked, but several items were stolen.

It is believed the robbery took place between 4pm and 9pm on Saturday evening, when De Bruyne was in Manchester watching his team squander a two-goal lead to draw with Crystal Palace.

De Bruyne took four years building his luxury home after buying a plot of land in east Belgium in 2015. The family spends most of its time in Manchester.

The midfielder’s Belgium team-mate Toby Alderweireld, the former Tottenham defender, also had his Belgian home burgled recently.

Commenting on the burglary at De Bruyne’s mansion, an official from the local prosecutors’ office said: “Everything was turned upside down, so it is not yet entirely clear what the exact disadvantage is. But at first glance it appears that mainly jewellery has been stolen.

“The investigation into what exactly happened is still ongoing. The forensic laboratory has already arrived on site for a trace investigation and a camera and neighbourhood investigation will follow. It is therefore not yet clear who the perpetrators are.”
